From Where I Sit – July 2026

July 2026 | Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month

July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month. Wear your Purple!

Purple is not my color, but for the 300,000 young people afflicted with Juvenile Arthritis,
purple signifies a stand for more awareness in our communities.

Juvenile Arthritis is a term used to describe many different rheumatic conditions in our
sacred pediatric relatives. Early symptoms include swollen and painful joints (which our
littles may not express as well as us older folks), fever, rashes and slow growth.

In tribal communities’ young people experience juvenile arthritis at rates as much as 4
times greater than non-tribal youth.

As with most things we face health wise, early diagnosis and intervention are the key. #KidsGetArthritisToo!
