September 2026 | National Recovery Month
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and others around the country celebrate September as National Recovery Month.
Launched in 1989, National Recovery Month began as an effort to raise awareness about recovery and mental health, recognize the resilience of communities of recovery and to urge public and non-public health professionals to support folks who reach out for help.
It would be untrue for me to proclaim that me and my own tiospaye have escaped mental health issues and the disease of addiction. But we are not alone. Nearly everyone has been touched in some way by hurt to the heart and brain resulting from childhood trauma, and chemistry.
Fortunately, in 2026 there are amazing resources to draw from. SDUIH has excellent Behavioral Health and Cultural Program teams to help.
