International Overdose Awareness Day: Talking About Overdose Could Save a Life

This Saturday, August 31st, marks International Overdose Awareness Day, a time to honor the lives we have lost to overdose and to break the silence surrounding this critical issue. As South Dakota Urban Indian Health, we believe that having open conversations about overdose can make a difference – it could even save a life.

Our team is dedicated to supporting our relatives on their path to recovery. We offer comprehensive, culturally informed treatment for substance use disorder (SUD). Each individual’s recovery journey is unique, and our approach reflects that. Our services offered at both clinics include:

  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT): A proven method to manage substance use disorder effectively.
  • Behavioral Health Therapy: Providing mental and emotional support tailored to each person’s needs.
  • Cultural Health Services: Grounded in Indigenous values, these services help maintain a strong connection to culture and tradition throughout the healing journey.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Coach: Someone who has been in your shoes to walk alongside you to help you see recovery is possible.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use disorder, know that help is available. Together, we can work towards healing and recovery, supporting one another every step of the way.
