It’s #GivingTuesday! We provide integrated care between primary care, behavioral health, and cultural health departments to heal our patients holistically; mind, body, and spirit. We are an Indigenous-led organization serving urban Indigenous communities in South Dakota. Our model of care delivery serves our communities through a public health lens, meeting our patients where they are and addressing needs head-on.
In the last fiscal year, SDUIH treated a total of 2,311 patients through 7,459 clinic visits. 58% of our patients identified as American Indian/Alaska Natives, representing more than 40 different tribes. Our most common diagnoses last year were:
- Hypertension
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Strep/sore throat
- Diabetes
Urban Indian Health Organizations were born from the American Indian Movement, and are grounded in equity and justice for Native people living in urban areas of the US. Ever striving towards equity & justice, our work with vaccine outreach, partnership with the City Council’s Homelessness Task Force, and conscious language choices designed to de-stigmatize addiction & create an inclusive space for our 2-Spirit & LGBTQ+ relatives reflect that commitment. Consider us this #GivingTuesday to support our work toward a bright Indigenous future.
