March 2026 | How’s That Colon?
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal Cancer is the third
most prevalent cancer for both men and women. It is also preventable.
Just recently, I scheduled the third colonoscopy in my 62 years. If you have never had
one, it is painless. The provider gives you a general anesthetic to knock you out and
you wake up and it’s over, and you’re on your way home for the day!
While examining you as you are asleep, the provider, I believe is a gastroenterologist,
removes anything stuck to your colon walls (called polyps), reducing the risk of those
polyps becoming cancerous. It is a very important part of taking care of yourself so that
you can be there for your relatives.
I am at the Pierre clinic for most of March. Please come for coffee here, or at the Sioux
Falls clinic anytime.
