December 2025 | Aaron Absolam Swan Makes His Spirit Journey

On Monday, November 25th , 2025, U.S. U.S. Army Commander Aaron Swan, enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe made his way to the Star Nation. Aaron was born on October 27th, 1935, 90 years ago. Among many, many other contributions he made to South Dakota, he served on the SDUIH Board of Directors for almost 3 decades.

Aaron was a well-known and talented engineer who spent most of his life in the Pierre area and worked on projects like the Oahe Dam. On October 27th, 1991, Governor George Mickelson proclaimed that South Dakota would celebrate Aaron Swan Day. More recently, Governor Larry Rhoden repeated the day on Aaron’s 90th birthday, October 27th, 2025.

During his Eulogy, his niece, Karla Abbott told mourners that as Aaron would want, we should all look out for one another. This is something we should all take into 2026! He will always be loved and will truly be missed!

I am at the Pierre clinic for most of the month. Please visit me here or in Sioux Falls anytime.
