Upcoming MMIR Events!

May 5 is recognized as the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR). It serves as a day of remembrance and awareness focused on the disproportionately high rates of violence and murder against Indigenous peoples.

South Dakota Urban Indian Health is hosting events in both Sioux Falls and Pierre to honor and remember those we have lost or are still missing and to highlight the need for ongoing grassroots advocacy and changes to the laws, policies, and increased allocation of resources to these injustices.

We hope you can join us!

PIERRE

Please plan to gather at the Causeways by the River at 6pm on Thursday, May 2. There will be cards available to write the name of loved ones we have lost or are still missing to be released with the balloons. We will release the balloons followed by a prayer and song. Attendees will receive a to-go snack bag with a sandwich, chips, and cookie.

YOU’RE ALSO INVITED to join us for Inipi on Sunday May 5th, at 6 pm for MMIR in Pierre/Ft. Pierre.
