South Dakota Urban Indian Health is committed to providing access to medications that have demonstrated improved safety in preventing or reducing withdrawal symptoms from opioids and/or alcohol. The MAT program at SDUIH practices a harm-reduction model of care. This practice promotes individualized treatment plans based on patient-centered goals. Referrals will be made when a patient requires a higher level of care than the MAT program offers.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Often accompanied by substance use disorders, are mental health diagnoses and needs. We are aware that our Native communities face many adversities as the result of Historical and Intergenerational Traumas which must be addressed with clinical and cultural interventions. Effective trauma-informed care for our native communities must include access to cultural and community resources to address each individual’s mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
Our programs and services include:
- Individual and Group Therapy and Counseling
- Substance Misuse Assessments
- Medication Assisted Treatment
- Cultural Activities
- Spiritual Guidance
- Smudging
