UPDATE: New floor plans!
After almost 20 years in our location on Abbey Road, South Dakota Urban Indian Health is returning to our roots in Downtown Pierre!
SDUIH has been providing care to our Pierre-area relatives for the past 44 years. The clinic first incorporated in 1977, starting out on the second floor of a local pharmacy at 331 1/2 S Pierre Street. Initially acting as a referral service for Native relatives living in and around Pierre, SDUIH began providing direct medical care to patients on site in 1980. The clinic moved to its current location on Abbey Road in 2005.
Over the past year, the number of patients and appointments at our Pierre clinic has continued to grow, and we’ve reached a point where the space on Abbey Road no longer accommodates our needs. The new clinic will have more than twice the space of our current location.
Our new address will be 339 S. Pierre Street in what is currently the Alley Exchange.
Plans for the renovation include building out the basement with offices and behavioral health patient space, and adding a third floor for a staff break room. Renovations of the downtown space will begin later this month, with a completion date expected in mid-2022.
Some impacts to clinic operations are expected during renovations between January and April. Patients will receive communication from the clinic prior to any changes in care delivery via written and verbal communication from staff.
