Native American Heritage Month (NAHM)

Art Contest

There are four age groups: ages 5 to 8, 9-12, 12-15, and 15-18. The theme of this year’s art contest is: Overcoming COVID-19 Using Our Native Traditions/Values. Please submit your artwork through the SDUIH Facebook or at SDUIH.org/NAHM by November 30th. For more information, please visit SDUIH.org/NAHM. The winner of each age category will receive a $50.00 giftcard. Winners to be announced the first week in December.

Requirements:

*Not following the rules below will result in immediate disqualification.

  • All submitted work must measure at least 8.5” x 11” and may be horizontal or vertical.
  • No three-dimensional work will be accepted.
  • Any medium is accepted: pencil, charcoal, watercolor, oil, etc. PLEASE NOTE:  Pastels or charcoal entries must be properly sprayed to prevent smearing.
  • Artwork will not be accepted if it is matted, framed, or altered with any type of mounting, backing material, or layers of additional paper. Entries painted on canvas supported by stretcher bars are permitted.
  • Photographs and computer-generated artwork will not be accepted.
  • Signatures or initials must appear on the front of the artwork, be no larger than 1” x 1.5” and be located in one of the two lower corners.
  • Only one entry per student will be permitted.
  • Students should not copy published artwork, it is called plagiarism.

Entry and Deadline

  • Entry must be submitted by Monday, November 30th, 2020 by 4pm. Please turn in to any of our locations below.

Video Contest
Requirements:

*Not following the rules below will result in immediate disqualification.

  • All submitted work must be submitted by an adult. (over 18 years of age). All videos submitted become property of SDUIH. A media release will need to be signed in order to claim prize.
  • Only one entry per household will be permitted.
  • Videos must be between 30 and 60 seconds. It can include children and other family/friends.
  • Video must explain or show “why Native American Heritage Month” is important to you.
  • Please have fun and be creative!

  • Entry must be submitted by Friday, November 20, 2019 by 4pm.
